To begin with, limit your team to 400 coins per player

When you begin your Ultimate Team journey, you’re going to struggle with coins. Players can have expired contracts, injuries, lack of match-fitness, and more, meaning more coins spent than earned. A good way of avoiding this is to buy gold players and not spend more than 400 coins per player. Sadly, you won’t have a great team to begin with when playing Ultimate Team. So, for 400 coins, expect players around the 75 mark. Once that player’s contract expires (usually after 7 games), instead of buying contracts and fitness cards, discard that card for around 300 coins and buy another player instead. This trick saves a lot of coins and helps pile them up.
Don’t bother with Ronaldo or Messi

Ronaldo & Messi are both the shiny Charizard of FIFA Ultimate Team. They’re a must-have for players but shouldn’t be. For those unsure of my Charizard reference, Charizard was the must-have Pokémon card back in the 90s. A fire-breathing dragon that reeked of awesomeness but was weak to water. Meaning Charizard could be defeated by most water-type Pokémon. Even a trained Magikarp could beat him. Ronaldo & Messi are the same due to their predictability. Every time you play a team that has Ronaldo & Messi, you know the player is going to pass the ball to them and try to dribble all the way to score a 30-yard screamer. Easy to predict, easy to defend. Avoid Ronaldo & Messi and focus on building an 11-man team, not a 1-man team.
Pick 1 League and stick with it

When building a team, it’s important to remember the chemistry. Poor chemistry leads to players not working well together. You will often face clubs and nations when playing Ultimate Team. But you don’t need to be that specific with your team. Choose a league you know well and stick with it. Aiming for 100 chemistry is sufficient and provides you with a broader range of players to choose from.
Keep everyone in the team around the same rating

Once you choose a league, decide on which players to buy, and opt for players with similar ratings. Otherwise, you end up with the same problem mentioned with Ronaldo & Messi. There’s no point spending all your coins on Sergio Aguero (87) and having him next to a Danny Ings (75). Instead, create a partnership such as Harry Kane & Wilfried Bony up front, both with similar ratings. Again, focus on building an 11-man team, not a 1-man team.
Use the chemistry styles

Something that a lot of players don’t do: FIFA Ultimate Team has different chemistry styles that can be applied to any player. These styles raise and lower the stats of certain player attributes. For example, giving a defender the Anchor style will increase their tackling and physical stats while lowering the less important ones, such as shooting or dribbling.
Have two teams

The problem with playing Ultimate Team is that you end up using the same team often, which can be repetitive and boring. A good idea is to have two teams so you can mix things up every now and then. Keeping both teams in the same league also allows you to mix and match when things don’t quite work.
Play 3 season matches with your 1st team…

When playing online, you have a choice of playing seasons or tournaments. The best option by far is seasons. Starting in League 10, each season consists of 10 matches, and players must earn a certain amount of points for promotion. Bonus coins are earned at the end of each season, with a good amount of coins earned for winning the league. Bonus coins are also earned if players stay in the league. Playing season matches also pits you against players of similar quality.
… and play 1 tournament match with your 2nd team

After playing three season matches with your first team, play one tournament match with your second team. Make sure everyone on your bench and reserves is in the first team. This will give them a much-needed break and regenerate their fitness back to 100. Also, unlike seasons, you can face any type of players in the tournament, including amazing in-form players. Don’t expect much when playing tournaments; the main reason for them is to give your first team a rest for the more important season matches.
Keep the players you replace and build an alternative 1st team

Once you start earning good coins, you will eventually start replacing your first team players with even better ones. Instead of selling your old players, keep them and build an alternative first team. You’re sure to have played a few matches with the old players, meaning you know their strengths and weaknesses. Keep all of them, and you can eventually replace your disposable second team with a much better team.
Buy In-Form Players

If a player scores a hat-trick in real life, expect an in-form card of him to be made. These cards usually have a great shooting stat, which is always handy in a game of FIFA. Once you start earning even more good coins (I’m talking a good 50,000 coins), start buying in-form players. These players are much more expensive than your normal ones, but they are worth the money because the most important stats have been improved.
Bonus Tip: Don’t buy coins with real money…
Don’t ever spend real money on virtual currency. It’s just not worth it. A better option for Ultimate Team is, instead of making special in-form players, just update the normal players, similar to normal online mode. This would lead to players buying youngsters such as Dele Alli and Anthony Martial, who by the end of the season could be huge stars worth a lot of coins. But there is no chance of this happening when people keep spending real money for virtual currency.
