With Spider-Man 2 on PS5 complete, I now have a nice, round number of 50 platinum trophies on the PlayStation, spanning all the way back to 2010. While these are rookie numbers compared to a lot of gamers, I still wanted to highlight some of my favourite platinum trophies in the form of a top 10 list, so that gamers can hopefully find a fun game or two to platinum themselves.
10. Burnout Paradise Remastered

In my eyes, the best racing game ever made. Give me a city to drive around over a racing track any day of the week. Paradise City is the best when it comes to fun, arcade-style racing, and smashing billboards as collectables made collecting more enjoyable than most games. Those irritating slow-motion crash cams do, however, become frustrating during races, holding back what is otherwise an amazing game from being higher on my list.
9. Final Fantasy XV

A toss-up between Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3. Both franchises are childhood favourites of mine, but Final Fantasy just edges out Kingdom Hearts as it came first, and there are more mainline games available on PlayStation. While I had a strong love/hate relationship with Final Fantasy XV during its story, once it was over and I unlocked the flying car, cleaning up side quests and miscellaneous trophies made Final Fantasy XV one of the most enjoyable open-world games to platinum. Just make sure you have a rubber band ready for the Survival Expert trophy.
8. Overcooked 2

Shout out to one of, if not the best couch co-op game ever made. My first and only platinum trophy achieved with my partner. Overcooked 2 featured tough, but fair challenges throughout its campaign and didn’t have any collectables, which is always a recipe for success. Still waiting for Overcooked 3 sadly, and I wish there were more couch co-op games as fun as Overcooked available.
7. Rocket League

When a game hooks its claws into you, a grind then becomes a fun, relaxed experience. This is the case for Rocket League, as whether you’re playing with friends or on your own, once you become hooked on its simple yet effective gameplay, all the grind trophies, such as driving a total of 50 kilometres, come naturally. Being able to play a match in 5 minutes also made Rocket League’s platinum trophy a breeze, as it makes it a more casual and relaxing experience that is also easy to play in between other games.
6. Horizon Zero Dawn

While I have both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West platinum trophies, the first was the more memorable experience. It truly blows you away with how much it gets right for a first entry in a franchise. The fun, fast-paced combat, along with a gorgeous open world to explore, made all your cliché trophies, such as collectibles and clearing all bandit camps, fun to collect. And just like Final Fantasy XV, once you’re finished with the story, which is a little on the boring side, Horizon Zero Dawn becomes one of the best and most enjoyable open-world games to platinum.
5. Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

An underrated franchise that deserves a comeback. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst improved on its predecessor by introducing a semi-open world for the main protagonist, Faith, to parkour in. Offering players plenty of satisfying moments in its playground. Missable collectables during missions didn’t hurt the overall experience, as its fast, fluid gameplay was a delight to play. Like with Overcooked, I’m still waiting for a third instalment to the franchise, which sadly doesn’t seem to ever see the light of day.
4. Marvel's Spider-Man

Has there ever been a more fun open-world game to explore than Marvel’s Spider-Man? While Spider-Man 2 was of a similar quality as the original, that feeling of taking your first swing around New York City in the opening of the first Spider-Man cannot be beaten. Fun time trials and collectables, along with a great story and villains, make Spider-Man a must for platinum trophy hunters.
3. Elden Ring

Elden Ring also feels like a must for platinum trophy hunters. It has the balance of difficulty and reward perfected, and although slightly easier than your Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, and Bloodborne, with players preferring a platinum trophy in any of the latter games, Elden Ring sets a grander stage with more enemies to vanquish and secrets to discover, offering more value for money and a badge of honour for those who achieve the platinum.
2. Death Stranding

The longest time to platinum on this list. Death Stranding is just like Marmite, as you either love it or hate it. Luckily for me, I loved it. Death Stranding offers 100+ hours of Hideo Kojima madness, along with rewarding trial-and-error gameplay once you get to grips with its mechanics. Once you finish the story, you are still left with plenty to do for the platinum trophy, with most of it requiring patience more than skill, making it a nice platinum trophy to grind for while watching a show or listening to music in the background.
1. Riders Republic

Riders Republic offers so much fun and reward in its gameplay. It is the perfect combination of old-school SSX/Tony Hawk games and new open-world games. Offering a variety of fun challenges and races in the form of BMX, snowboarding, skiing, snowmobile, and wingsuit racing. With little to no guide required throughout, players can tackle the platinum trophy in any order they’d like, as long as they remember to take part in 50 online Mass Races along the way, making it the most fun and stress-free Platinum Trophy I’ve achieved.
For more of a reason to platinum, Riders Republic’s platinum trophy, as of writing, holds an Ultra rare status on PSNProfiles, showing that players are overlooking this underrated gem of a game.
